Newsflash hot sauce fans: you don’t actually like the taste, you’re just addicted to the endorphins your body releases when you inflect massive pain on your tongue by bathing it in chilli. It’s true.
But that’s ok. Just like comparing which cocktail is the best (spoiler, the one with the most alcohol), let’s now embark on the conceited comparison of hot sauces, pretending they all taste different, but secretly knowing we’re just junkies looking for an endorphin fix.
For value alone, Encona original Hot Pepper Sauce is pretty much unbeatable. It’s versatile, inexpensive, and comes in a slick, compact bottle that fits neatly in your bag for those Formation moments.
The Dixie Pig BBQ stand in Winston-Salem isn’t just the home of some delicious BBQ street food, it’s also the home of Texas Pete hot sauce.
Chili and garlic is match made in heaven and perfected in Vietnam, where this sauce is from.
Straight out of Springfield, Missouri, Frank’s RedHot is renowned as the main ingredient in the first buffalo wing sauce created in 1964 at the Anchor Bar and Grill in Buffalo, New York.

Another Huy Fong hot sauce makes our list with the Huy Fong Sriracha. Put it on a banana – go on, we dare ya! You won’t regret it, it’s definitely a thing.
If you want authentic Louisiana hot sauce, you’d be a fool not to buy Crystal. It’s got a real tanginess that you can’t find in any other hot sauce, so try it out!
Are you kidding? Tabasco? No, we’re being deadly serious so shut up. Tabasco is hot, vinegary and delicious. If you don’t like it, you’re rubbish.
Decided to shun the delicious, delicious pork for fish? Bold move, but it could pay off… if you choose this sauce. It’s slightly more citric than the other sauces on our list, so fits perfectly with fish (think of Rick Stein squeezing a lemon on some red mullet and you’ll get it).
There’s a lot of hype surrounding the Scoville rating these days, so we couldn’t complete this list without a 1 million scoville extract: the Psycho Drops Killer Million. It comes with a pipette, so you know it’s going to be strong.
